How to Make Your Flowers Last Longer at Home
One of the joys of bringing flowers into your home is watching them brighten a space, but with a little care, they can last even longer. Here are some of our favourite tips from the field and the studio:
-
Start with a clean vase. Bacteria is the enemy of fresh flowers.
Trim stems on an angle before placing them in water. - Refresh the water every couple of days and re-trim stems as needed.
- Keep them away from direct sun, heaters, or fruit bowls (ripening fruit releases gas that shortens vase life).
- Don’t be afraid to remove spent blooms — sometimes one flower will fade while another keeps shining.
- The difference with local, freshly harvested flowers is that they haven’t spent a week in transit, they’ve come straight from the field to your vase. With a little love, you’ll enjoy them for even longer, letting them bring colour, joy, and life to your home.
