THE PERFECT INTRODUCTION TO GROWING SUSTAINABLE CUT FLOWERS.

Step into the cooler growing season with this hands-on two-day workshop designed to help you create a thriving cut-flower garden for winter and early spring. March is one of the most powerful planting windows in northern NSW — the heat softens, the soil settles and the conditions become perfect for sowing cool-season annuals.

Across two practical days at Poppy & Fern you’ll learn exactly what to grow, how to start from seed, and how to plan a garden that gives you flowers for months — not just a single flush. Ideal for beginners, hobby gardeners and anyone wanting to bring more homegrown beauty into their life.

What we cover

  • The best cool-season flowers to plant now (snapdragons, stock, sweet peas, poppies + more)

  • Soil preparation + creating healthy growing beds

  • Starting seeds with confidence (no more guesswork)

  • Autumn successions: how to keep the flowers coming

  • Protecting young plants as the weather cools

  • Harvesting techniques for long vase life

  • Planning your space for winter + early spring abundance

Why autumn is ideal

Cool-season flowers establish beautifully now, giving strong stems and long flowering windows as winter arrives. You’ll walk away with a plan — and seedlings — ready to plant immediately.

All techniques and tasks will be demonstrated carefully and will be fun for all ability levels.

WHO IS THIS PROGRAM FOR?

If you love the idea of creating a cutting garden but aren't sure where to start, this program is for you!

Jess will provide a planting guide and step-by-step seasonal actions. At the end of this course you will leave with a tray full of sown seeds, the confidence to get your plants in the ground and the skills needed to look after your garden full of blooms.

This workshop is held outside in the elements and very hands on! Please expect to get dirty. Wear covered shoes and breathable comfy clothing. Bring along sun protection and a water bottle (it will be hot). Lunch is not included but we will stop from a break, so you can either bring your own or purchase from Three Blue Ducks (there will not be enough time to go into Byron).
